G2: 1st Steps
Healthy Habit 6: Sharing

When something amazing has happened in your life you automatically want to share it with others.

If you got a girlfriend/boyfriend, got a new car, made varsity, won a tournament, etc. you’d want to share it with as many people as possible.

As a matter of fact the first thing you’d do is text your closest friends or post it on your social media. I guarantee it!

One of the first things the earliest followers of Jesus did after they met him was to go and tell others about Jesus (John 1.40-42; 44-45). They told others and then brought them to Jesus.

Jesus impacted their lives and they wanted those closest to them to be impacted as well.

Jesus commanded us to share.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28.19-20)

He told His disciples (and us) to go and tell others about Him and teach all that he taught.

As a healthy, growing Christian you need to develop the habit of telling others about Jesus.

Tell others you love Jesus. Tell others about how Jesus has impacted you – what difference is making in your life. Tell them how Jesus can make a difference in their lives.

What do you say? Well, just tell them your story.

Tell how you came to know and love Jesus. Tell why you believe in Jesus as the Son of God who died to rescue you.

Tell how he gives you hope, peace, purpose, meaning, and joy in life.

Tell how he is shaping you to become better – to become more like Jesus.

One of the easiest and least scary ways we can share Jesus with our friends is to simply invite them to a student ministry event or service.

At ORBC our Wednesday night student services are called REACH. That’s because they are designed to help you reach your friends who are spiritually disconnected.

You can regularly invite friends to REACH services, but you can also invite them to one of our seasonal REACH events (Escape Room, Fall Flannel Feast, Lip Sync Battle, etc.).

REACH services and REACH events are all designed to be fun, interesting, exciting, energizing and offer the opportunity for your friends to hear about Jesus.

Who can you invite this week?

As you grow in your faith you will want to be able to do more than just tell your story and invite your friends to church.

You will want to be able to explain to others their need for Jesus and how to find their own relationship with Jesus.

The church often uses the term Gospel to refer to the message of God’s redeeming love for mankind through Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross and His resurrection.

It sounds kind of scary to share this with others, but it’s not too hard. You just need a bit of training and some practice. We have resources that can help you learn how to share the gospel and your faith in Jesus.
