First of all, thank you so much for committing to pray for one of our students attending summer camp. Our students will be attending MOVE Camp with CIY (Christ in Youth) at Stephen F. Austin University.
Prayer carries us through difficult circumstances, breaks chains of generational sin, opens hearts, and transforms minds. We believe that it is one of the most important and impactful things that we can do for people. It is real, true, powerful ministry. So, thank you!
On this page, you will find some specific ways to pray over the next few weeks as we anticipate all that Jesus has in store for these students.
As you look at this prayer tag think about James 5 which tells us, “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” Imagine what can happen when a righteous person prays 1, 3, 6, or 10 times a day for a teen who is discovering the love of Jesus and hearing how they can enter into a relationship with the Father through faith in the Son. And hearing the call to enter a life of Kingdom Work. Your prayers will make a difference in this teen’s life!
WHAT TO PRAY BEFORE MOVE CAMP
MOVE’s theme this year is IN BETWEEN. Life can sometimes feel, well, long. And the time that stands in between Jesus’ resurrection and his return, for us, and for the Church through history, feels especially long. So how do we live in this in between – between the cross and Jesus’ return and between that initial moment of faith and when we see Jesus face to face? This summer we are diving into the book of Hebrews to help us walk faithfully with Jesus IN BETWEEN. Through the book of Hebrews, students will see how Jesus is greater than anything that came before, how He offers a better way, and how he calls us to a faith that lasts. Hebrews 12:1-2 urges us to “throw off everything that hinders” and “run with perseverance,” fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. In the moments where we feel caught between where we’ve been and where we’re going, Jesus meets us, speaks to us, and leads us forward.
We invite you to prayerfully read through Hebrews. As you do, ask that God would grab your student’s full attention and show them who he truly is. Pray that God would prepare them by eliminating distractions so they can see just how great Jesus is. Pray they would see how Jesus has drawn near to them and provides a better way, by making us new and calling us to a life of faithfulness and Kingdom Work.
Also, pray that in this time leading up to MOVE, God would protect their hearts and minds. The evil one is here to steal, kill, and destroy. He would love to hinder each student’s experience with the worship, community, and truth that God has in store for them.
WHAT TO PRAY DURING MOVE CAMP
Alright! They’re on the bus headed to MOVE. Below are the daily themes and scriptures we’ll be going through at MOVE together. Please be praying over each day’s message and that God’s Spirit does deep work through each session.
DAY 1 – IN BETWEEN… Pay Attention!
SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 1:1-4 and Hebrews 2:1
DESCRIPTION: Have you ever been so captivated by something that you had to stop everything just to focus on it? That’s the sense of urgency with which the book of Hebrews opens. In his commentary Interpretations, Thomas Long describes the beginning of this mysterious book as “the sound of a sermon,” designed to grip its audience. Right from the start, the author of Hebrews brings a powerful truth into sharp focus: “GOD HAS SPOKEN TO US BY HIS SON” (Hebrews 1:2).
It’s easy to get distracted, isn’t it? This applies to all of us, not just students. We get wrapped up in the noise around us—news, social media, relationships, and countless other things. But what if we made the intentional choice to shift our focus away from these distractions and toward Jesus.
Night one is a call—a call to pay attention. If we want a faith that endures, we must choose to “pay the most careful attention” to Jesus, who is the perfect representation of God. This Jesus, who is greater than the angels, offers a better way.
PRAY:
- That students would recognize that God is speaking to us through Jesus. Pray He will grab their whole attention and that they would listen to his voice.
- That students would be able to eliminate the distractions from home, the drive to MOVE, and the worries and concerns they may have coming into this week so they can focus on Jesus and his presence.
DAY 2 – THEN AND NOW
MORNING: Jesus is greater.
SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 3 (specifically v. 1-6)
EVENING: Jesus is close.
SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 4:14-16
DESCRIPTION: We’ve all experienced moments of feeling completely alone, convinced that no one could understand the depth of our pain or the weight of our struggles. But the author of Hebrews offers us a beautiful reminder: Jesus walked this earth, fully human, fully tempted. He felt emotions. He experienced hurt. He endured anxiety.
Jesus is greater than the high priests who came before Him. He knows our deepest weaknesses—both those we show the world and those we hide. Not only does He know them, but He encounters them and overcomes them. He understands it all because He endured it all. This makes Him entirely approachable. And when we come to Him, we can always expect the same response: love and grace.
PRAY:
- That students would be drawn to the greatness of Jesus – drawn in by his humanity and transformed by his holiness as God in the flesh.
- That students would see the gift that Jesus is as he allows us to approach the throne of God with confidence.
- That students would be become vulnerable with Jesus to bring their needs and troubles to him.
DAY 3 – OLD AND NEW
MORNING: Jesus has a better way.
SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 8
EVENING: Jesus makes us new.
SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 10:19-23
DESCRIPTION: Have you ever discovered a better way to do something? Maybe it became more efficient or productive, making the old way obsolete. The old way served its purpose, but it paved the way for something new to take its place. In Hebrews 8, the author explains how God establishes a new covenant through Christ. Under the old covenant, even the high priest had to offer sacrifices for their sins. But then Jesus comes along. Instead of offering an animal sacrifice, He sacrifices Himself. In doing so, God’s new covenant with His people is set in motion.
Jesus’ sacrifice not only establishes a new covenant but also gives a new heart to those who choose Him. As the author of Hebrews says, “Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience…”
Since Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice, once and for all, we no longer need to offer sacrifices to cleanse our daily guilt. Jesus was the final and greatest sacrifice, and in Him, we are made new. We can leave behind our old life of guilt and shame and pursue Jesus with confidence. And this isn’t for one group of people, or for people who already “have it all together.” This is available to all, always.
PRAY:
- That students would clearly understand the gospel message – that Jesus is the only one who can purify us from sin and make us truly free.
- That students would believe that Jesus would have the power to restore what has been broken.
- That students would be ready to confess sin and turn to Jesus for his help.
DAY 4 – YESTERDAY AND TOMORROW
MORNING: Imitate those who have been faithful.
SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 11
EVENING: Having faith that doesn’t quit.
SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 12:1-3
DESCRIPTION: The faithfulness of those who came before us should shape the way we live today. None of the people mentioned in Hebrews 11 were perfect, but the author emphasizes that they all lived “by faith.”
Jesus has already blazed the trail for us. The author of Hebrews calls Jesus the “pioneer” of our faith in some translations. He has gone before us and charted the path. Now it’s up to us to decide whether to follow His lead. This is a decision that has to be made daily. Yesterday is behind us, and we leave the sins that weigh us down in the past as we sprint toward our goal—heaven. With sin behind us, Jesus before us, and the Holy Spirit inside of us, we press on.
PRAY:
- That students would be able to clearly identify the sin that is holding them back from stepping into all that God has for them.
- That students would begin to create practical ways to stay on the path that Jesus has set for them.
- That each student would have a clearer picture of Jesus and would choose to run toward him each day.
DAY 5 – ME AND YOU
MORNING: Jesus unites us.
SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 12:14-16
EVENING: Jesus equips us.
SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 13:20-21
DESCRIPTION: Jesus brings people together by transforming hearts and minds. When we pursue peace and holiness, we reflect Jesus, drawing others to Him. This is a call not just to avoid conflict but to actively seek unity. Bitterness, as mentioned in verse 15, is like a root that grows and spreads, dividing people. We are warned to be vigilant against it because it can pull us away from the peace Jesus calls us to.
As believers, we are part of a beautiful community—the Church—called to come together in faith, hope, and love. Hebrews 13:20-21 reminds us that “the God of peace… equip[s] you with everything good for doing his will.” This assurance gives us confidence as we gather, worship, and celebrate the work God is doing in our lives and among us.
When we come together as the Church, we not only share our journeys but also celebrate the collective mission we have in Christ. God equips us, empowering each member to contribute their unique gifts for the greater good. This is not just about individual fulfillment; it’s about joining together to reflect God’s glory and serve our community.
PRAY:
- That students would understand that unity starts with Jesus – by pursuing his peace and holiness.
- That students would seek peace by asking for and by extending forgiveness.
- That students would joyfully celebrate being a part of something bigger than themselves, and that they would return home strengthened and renewed through the bond of faith in Jesus.
WHAT TO PRAY AFTER MOVE CAMP
Well, that’s it. The students are loading up and heading home. This can be a time of a lot of conflicting feelings for students. They don’t want to leave MOVE, but they’re excited to see their friends and family back home. They don’t want to stop drinking from the firehose that they’ve had this week, but they’re excited to put into practice all that the Lord has placed on their hearts. They don’t want to return to the “real world”, but they are excited to be a part of God’s plan for redeeming this world. They can simultaneously be excited, sad, emboldened, and scared. This is pretty common for anyone coming down from a mountain-top experience. But the truth is, we weren’t meant to live on the mountaintop. They’re small, have no water, and no people. While mountain tops are great, the majority of our lives are spent in valleys. While God shows us His glory and majesty on the mountaintop, He shows us His love and mercy in the valleys. As students come down from the mountaintop, pray that…
- They would not be discouraged by the valley feeling “different” than the mountaintop but instead would experience God’s love and mercy in new and beautiful ways.
- They would stay connected to their church over the next few months, remembering that they need their church, and their church needs them.
- They would have God’s eyes to see the lost and hurting around them.
- They would be committed to lives of Kingdom Work.
