THE MEMBERSHIP COVENANT

Part 9: Step 1 of 1: Read: The Membership Covenant

Step 1: Read:

Earlier in the course we noted that part of being a member of a local church is having shared commitments, seen in the ethical vision of living under the Lordship of Jesus and seen in the commitment that members make with one another and to one another regarding their life of discipleship to Jesus in community. At Oak Ridge Baptist Church, our Membership Covenant (an agreement or commitment we make with one another) includes six core commitments. These core commitments capture the essence of what it means to be a member of Oak Ridge.

  1. I will hold fast to historical Christian teaching and practice as outlined in the ORBC statement of faith.
  2. I will commit to a life of holiness and obedience to God’s Word and will submit myself to the gentle correction of fellow believers and the Church when I am persistently and unrepentantly living out of step with Jesus.
  3. I will weekly attend corporate worship as long as I am physically able.
  4. I will be in intentional discipling relationships with others (primarily through Life Groups and Discipleship Groups).
  5. I will serve faithfully and consistently in the ministries of ORBC.
  6. I will consistently give of my financial resources sacrificially, generously, and proportionately to how God has blessed me to support the ministers, ministries, and mission of the Church.
