Tenebrae Service
Our Good Friday Tenebrae service is a solemn and powerful time of remembrance.
“Tenebrae” means “darkness.” Through Scripture readings, worship, and the gradual extinguishing of candles, we reflect on the suffering, abandonment, and death of Jesus Christ.
This service invites us to sit in the weight of the cross — to remember the cost of sin and the depth of Christ’s love. As the room grows darker, we are reminded that hope can sometimes feel hidden … but it is never extinguished.
We leave in silence, holding the tension between death and resurrection.

The day is called Good Friday because, although it remembers the suffering and death of Jesus, it also marks the moment when God accomplished our redemption. Through His death on the cross, Jesus paid the price for sin and opened the way for forgiveness and new life.
What appeared to be a tragic defeat became the greatest victory in history. Because of the cross, we have the hope of salvation and the promise of resurrection.
So we call it “Good” Friday not because the events were easy or joyful, but because through the sacrifice of Jesus, God brought about something eternally good for the world.
