Advent is a time of preparation, celebration, and anticipation. It’s a look back into the past to see how God’s people looked forward to the coming of the Messiah and celebrate His coming 2,000 years ago. It’s a time for us to prepare our hearts, minds, and spirits to reflect on and celebrate the greatest event in history, God-eternal coming to dwell with His creation. It’s also a time to anticipate Jesus coming again as King of Kings. Advent builds our excitement and anticipation of Jesus’ glorious return.
ORBC’s invites you and your family to experience Advent afresh with four resources.
- Take a journey with your family through the 24 days of Advent through a look at the Names of Jesus and celebrate all that they tell us of who He is! Add a new name of Jesus each day!
- Use the Advent Devotional guides (available through YouVersion Bible app) and prepare your heart to celebrate and anticipate the coming of Jesus!
- Take time to reflect on the rich meaning of Advent through daily exhibits of art and music curated to help you experience Advent.
- Why use art? “Art stirs us to adopt valuable willingness to inquire, to engage, to receive, and it demands that we take time. It takes time to sit and pause and reflect. It takes time to really see what’s in front of you. It takes time to learn to see, to open yourself up to revelation. The practice of engaging with art has a way of cultivating surrender in our lives to make us the kind of people who, if we will give the necessary time, listen well and learn patiently.” (Joseph Tenney)
